Between Love and Vengeance

Chapter 4: Descent into Chaos

Maria Luíza Duarte's heart raced like a wild stallion, threatening to burst from her chest. The plane shuddered violently, screams reverberating through the cabin as her vision blurred with mounting panic. Lights flickered erratically, casting eerie shadows that danced along the walls, heightening her dread.

"I can't die here... Not like this," she whispered hoarsely into the chaos.

Then, in a surge of desperation, she screamed, "Damn it, Alexei! I lied! I don't want to die! I'll marry you!" Her words hung in the air, a frantic plea born of raw survival instinct.

Panic gripped her, making her gasp for air as her hands trembled uncontrollably. The confines of the cabin felt suffocating, closing in on her with each jolt of turbulence. Anxiety gnawed at her chest, threatening to overwhelm her in a tidal wave of fear.

Suddenly, a towering figure clad in a pristine white coat appeared beside her. With calm authority, he knelt beside her and grasped her wrist firmly. "Mrs. Maria Luíza, breathe slowly," his voice cut through the pandemonium, his words a lifeline in the tempest.

Struggling to focus, she met his gaze, feeling relief and suspicion. His hands moved precisely as he extracted a syringe from a small black case. "Trust me," he urged gently, his tone unwavering despite the chaos around them.

Fear and uncertainty warred within her as the needle pierced her skin. She wanted to resist, to fight against the numbing calm that threatened to overtake her senses. But gradually, her racing heartbeat slowed, her frantic thoughts quieting to a distant murmur.

As the medication took effect, the world around her seemed to slow to a surreal crawl. The doctor secured her back in her seat, his demeanor unruffled by the continuing turbulence.

Through a haze, she heard the pilot announce an emergency landing attempt. The urgency in his voice was palpable, a stark reminder of their perilous situation.

Beside her, a fellow passenger, unsecured and caught off guard, was violently thrown against the ceiling with a sickening thud. The sight sent a shiver down her spine, reinforcing the gravity of their plight.
